The Positive Aspects Of Being In An Unpopular Band

The Positive Aspects Of Being In An Unpopular Band

"I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member."

-Groucho Marx

1. Playing fewer shows means less dealings with extremely drunk people.

2. People are still coming to my shows to see me, not to be seen.

3. I am not approached by corporations seeking product endorsement.

4. I still have to prove myself every time I perform instead of having my ass kissed.

5. I actually appreciate it when someone kisses my ass. At this stage, they might actually mean it.

Who We Aren't

We are not clowns. We don't jump around onstage trying to get your attention. We do not wear makeup or costumes or outfits. We are not comedians. We are not vaudevillians. We do not make music for television. We do not cheat. We are not "retro." We are not ass kissers. We do not have stylists. We are not pretending to be something we are not. We are not pretending to be something better than what we are. We are not applause hounds. We are not scenesters. We are not unoriginal. We are not untalented. We are not braggarts. We are not it in for the lifestyle. We do not sacrifice our dignity.

Who We Are

A China Clipper is (in old-tymie slang) a dish washer. Specifically it's our swipe at clubs and venues that treat musicians as such, usually when the band isn't famous and the promoters and employees have nothing to gain by being nice to the group. We're not bitter. Just a little jaded. Czar used to play guitar in Rust, one of the handful of San Diego bands to be signed major label style back in the nineties. Toured with Tool, Meat Puppets, Collective Soul (?!). Played a billion shows, spent a lot of time in the van, and left the group after their second record.
